Team Rules
3rd Annual BBQ Competition
Teams may check-in and set-up between 8:30 am-10:30am, Saturday April 19, 2025. No grills can be started before 10:00 am Saturday April 19, 2025.
Entries for the BBQ Competition will have the following categories: Best in Chicken, Best in Ribs, & Overall Winner.
All participants will be given styrofoam boxes for judging on the day of the competition.
The Head cook must be 21 years of age or older and will be liable for their team. Teams will consist of a group of 4 only.
Teams will be escorted to their assigned tent. Cooking sites are approximately 10×10 in size, at Milne Playground.
Teams must supply ALL needed equipment and sanitation supplies. Cleaning stations will be available for prep of food.
Charcoal/wood grilling only; charcoal smokers are allowed; NO GAS GRILLS
You will be provided chicken and ribs in a cooler with ice; the meat must be kept below 40 degrees
Your food prep/cooking area must be kept clean and neat.
Only team members are allowed in the tent within your designated area; for everyone’s safety, there will be event staff on site to enforce this policy.
Category items being judged are NOT allowed to leave your assigned cooking site and brought back. All meat must be prepared at your designated cooking site.
Violations of contest rules and regulations will result in disqualification, expulsion and/or disqualification from future participation in the event.
Judging will begin at 2:00pm for Chicken and 3:00pm for Ribs. Prizes will be awarded at 4:00pm
The judge will score each entry based on Appearance, Texture/tenderness, Taste, Moisture, and Overall impression
Pick your best pieces of meat for judging
The chicken and ribs for judging will be placed in Styrofoam boxes; a team representative will present the containers to judges for scoring
Decisions of the judges are FINAL
You are allowed to sell other items you will barbecue, but please make sure the category items are not sold until after the winners are picked.
You will be given prompts when there is 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 minutes remaining and when time is up.
Prizes will be awarded as follows: Best in Chicken-Winning Plaque, Best in Ribs-Winning Plaque, Overall Winner-$2000.00 and trophy.
The contest committee reserves the right to reject any entry application. If an application is not accepted, the entry fee will be refunded. No refunds of entry fee will be made once a team has been accepted into the contest, with the exception . Contestant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Crescent City Pitmasters and affiliates and all claims made against same, including, without limitation all costs, liabilities, judgements, expenses, damages or reasonable attorney’s fees arising out of in connection with any structure erected by Crescent City pitmaster and/or affiliates and any claims made on account or resulting from contestant’s participation in the contest.
